In a printed or to-be-reproduced image, a type of highlight—the brightest area(s) of an image—produced by a reflection of a light source within an image. A specular highlight, unlike a diffuse highlight, contains no detail nor any halftone dots at all. Also known as a drop-out highlight and a catchlight. See Highlight.
