Descriptive of the sensitivity of photographic films or other photosensitive materials to all wavelengths of light. Panchromatic film is commonly used to make photographic color separations. A disadvantage of panchromatic film is that it cannot be handled safely in a red darkroom light, unlike orthochromatic film, which is sensitive to all colors except red.
