Pages Per Inch

Term used in book manufacturing which refers to the number of book pages (not sheets) present in a one-inch stack of paper. The number of pages per inch is calculated by determining the number of sheets which will occupy one inch (using conditions that simulate a book's smashed bulk, or the decrease in total thickness due to the pressure of a book's binding) and multiplying that bulking number by two to get the number of pages (since each sheet contains two pages).
