A printing defect of offset lithography characterized by light and dark bands in solids and halftones parallel to the gripper edge of a press sheet, the distance between which being equal to the distance between the teeth of the cylinder gear. Gear streaks are a consequences of excessive packing, or the production of two much pressure, or squeeze, between the plate and blanket cylinders, which causes the cylinders to slip. Streaks then begin to appear on the blanket, which are then transferred to the paper.
