A chemical reaction in which the presence of transient, highly reactive atoms or molecules (called free radicals) produces complex, high-molecular-weight molecules (polymers) from several simple, low-molecular-weight molecules. Free radical polymerization is responsible for drying certain types of printing inks. See Free Radical and Polymerization.
