Process performed in the press section of a papermaking machine, which subjects the wet paper web to a degree of pressure by feeding it through rollers. The pressure exerted on the paper web, to squeeze out water and compact the paper fibers, can be adjusted to provide either a slight amount of wet pressing, or a great deal. The amount of wet pressing a paper receives affects many of its structural and optical properties. (See Press Section and Paper and Papermaking: Paper Properties.)
