A portion of, or a path created on, any computer or analog storage medium—such as a magnetic tape, a magnetic disk, an optical disc, etc.—on which data can be stored. When a computer disk, for example, is initialized or formatted, the disk drive's write head subdivides the surface of the disk into concentric circular (or spiral) tracks, which are then sub-subdivided into sectors, allowing for the organization and rapid retrieval of stored data.

On a CEPS, the term track is used to refer to one complete circuit. Only one function can usually be performed on one track at any given time.
