The most common type of printing plate used in offset lithography, which consists of a metal—typically aluminum—covered with a light-sensitive coating. Light shining through the image areas of a photographic negative hardens this coating, which remains on the plate when chemical treatment is added to remove the unexposed, non-image areas of the plate.
