Shaft Cylinder

One of two primary types of gravure cylinder in which the shafts (which are used to hold the cylinder in the press, engraving device, or elsewhere) are manufactured as part of the cylinder base. A shaft cylinder is more expensive than a sleeve cylinder (which requires shafts to be added), but the fact that the same shafts are used for every stage of the gravure engraving, preparation, and printing processes mitigates against decreased print quality caused by the compounding of shaft inaccuracies.
