Safety Bar

A device attached to the feedboard of a sheetfed printing press used to identify foreign objects being fed into the press, such as crumpled sheets of paper, wooden wedges used on the pile table, or other non-paper objects that fall into the press. A safety bar is typically a metal strip placed over the feedboard with a clearance between the stock and itself of about one-quarter of an inch. (See Feedboard.) A safety bar is also called a crash bar.
