In computers, the basic computer architecture utilized by a particular model or series of models, which defines a certain standard to which application developers must adhere when writing software intended for it. The term platform more commonly refers to the specific operating system utilized by a particular computer (such as the standard platforms of Macintosh, DOS, Windows, UNIX, and OS/2) or specialized system software, such as network management software, etc. Software which can run on more than one standard platform is known as cross-platform.
