Any of several types of thermosetting resins produced from the condensation of phenol (a poisonous organic compound, a hydroxyl derivative of benzene), or a phenol derivative, with formaldehyde (or other type of aldehyde) used in printing inks to impart high degrees of gloss, hardness, and rapid drying properties.
