Metallic compounds, typically derived from manganese, cobalt, iron, copper, zinc, or zirconium, used as driers in the manufacture of printing inks. Metallic soaps, and other materials added as driers, work as catalysts to expedite the oxidation of chemicals in the fluid ink vehicle, allowing the ink to set more rapidly, preventing smudging and problems such as ink setoff caused by the handling of still-wet printing.
