Inker-Feed System

A type of continuous-flow dampening system used on an offset lithographic press, consisting of a metering roller transferring fountain solution from the water pan to a transfer roller and, ultimately, to the first inking form roller, which doubles as a dampening form roller. The width of the metering nip between the metering and transfer rollers controls the amount of fountain solution ultimately sent to the plate. Inker-feed systems differ from other dampening systems in that other systems have specially-designated dampening form rollers. The obvious consideration with inker-feed systems is ensuring that the inking form roller will accept a film of dampening solution.
