In typography, the positioning of the text of one or more lines a fixed distance from one or both margins of a page. The most common indent is the paragraph indent, or an indention of the first line of a paragraph from the left (or right) margin. The reverse is a hanging indent, in which the first line is set flush with the left (or right) margin, while the rest of the lines of the paragraph are indented. A nested indent is an indent relative to the previous indent, rather than from the margin. A runaround indent is the indention of a certain number of lines to make room for an illustration or other page element the text is intended to flow around. A skewed indent is a varied indenting of subsequent lines, giving the margin a slanted appearance. A delayed indent is an indent which does not manifest itself until after a specified number of lines have been set. (See also Indention.)
