The amount of paper, or the margin, that is held by the grippers that feed the sheet through a printing press. The amount of margin grabbed by the grippers is an important consideration when designing the material to be printed (i.e., image areas that fall in the gripper margin will not print). Another important consideration is the pressure exerted on the paper by the grippers, which, if excessive, can damage the sheet or, if uneven across the press, can cause wrinkling of the sheet and misregister of printed images.
