Term for the water-suspended mixture of paper pulp and non-fibrous additives such as fillers, dyes, or sizing from which paper or paperboard is made. After all the disparate materials are added to the papermaking furnish, it undergoes refining to dissolve the pulp into a slurry before it is sent to the beater and, ultimately, the forming section of the paper machine.
