A paper web defect characterized by a short, smooth, straight cut in the paper web, caused by a shive slitting the paper surface as it passes through the calender. A fiber cut can cause a web break in web offset lithography, in particular if it runs in the cross-machine direction and/or is located at the edge of the web. (See also Blister Cut and Hair Cut.)
