A test performed to measure a paper's pick resistance, or surface strength, in which calibrated, progressively adhesive wax sticks are melted onto the surface of a paper sample and, after cooling, pulled quickly from the surface. The "wax strength number" is the highest-number wax stick that can be melted on and pulled from the paper without marring its surface. The wax test should be performed on both the wire side and felt side of the paper.
