A wide variety of papers that have undergone coating to impart increased degrees of gloss, ink holdout, brightness, and smoothness. Enamel papers are high-gloss papers with high bulk and opacity and are ideal for offset printing. Enamel papers are also available in a variety of colors. Enamel papers are frequently produced by supercalendering or cast coating. The basic size of enamel papers is 25 x 38, and comes in basis weights of 60, 70, 80, and 100-pound. Dull finish enamel papers are less glossy than regular enamel papers, yet still possess the desired qualities of high ink holdout.

Matte-coated papers are low-gloss, glare-free papers that also offer many of the printing advantages of enamel papers, and their lack of supercalendering gives them greater bulk and opacity. Their basic size is also 25 x 38, and come in basis weights of 50, 60, 70, 80, and 100-pound.

Lightweight coated papers (typically groundwood coated paper) are used primarily for magazines, catalogs, newspaper inserts and coupons. Their basic size is 25 x 38 and come in basis weights of 30 and 40-pound.

Coated papers are also formulated for the specific demands of web offset printing, in particular, for use in heatset drying.
