An inorganic material used as a white pigment in printing inks. China Clay (chemical composition Al2O3.2SiO2.2H2O) comprises several shades from white to gray, and is chemically inert. It is used primarily in letterpress and gravure inks, but is useful in a wide variety of applications, due to its low cost. (See White Pigments.)
Also known as bentonite and kaolin clay ('CI Pigment White 19 No. 77004').
