In imaging and photography, a small transparent gray scale imprinted on a strip of film with gradually increasing densities, from completely transparent to opaque, which are either in increments or are continuous. A carbon wedge is produced using a finely-grained carbon dispersion coating and does not scatter light rays greatly. As a result, a carbon wedge is often used in scanner calibration.
