In typography, descriptive of the curvature linking the main vertical stem of a letter (or other character) to the horizontal serif. A serif character with no curvature (or where the join between thre stem and the serif is a right angle) is known as square serif. A variety of these square serif faces is called collectively Egyptian (so named after the extensive use of these highly readable typefaces on signboards during Napoleon's Egyptian campaign). A slight curvature between the stem and the serif is known as fine bracketing, while a highly pronounced curvature is known as full bracketing. Such bracketing is also known as a cove serif.
